Potato Pie and Red Beans
This recipe is something that I've made for the first time and I wasn't disappointed with it. But it does take a time to prepare everything, and I'm not that much into recipes that takes too many time, but I've done it nonetheless.
Ingredients:
- Whole Wheat Flour (I mostly use this flour because it's healthier than the white flour)
- Potatoes
- Red Beans (I've bought one in the can, because it takes less time to prepare it)
- Onion
- Garlic
- Carrot
- Olive Oil
- Gourmet Seasoning - Vegeta
- Salt
- Milk
- Butter
- Black pepper
- Ground red pepper
- Parsley (optional)
- Ground ginger (optional)
Preparation:
Pie:
- Warm up your water if you don't have any. Take a flour and put it in the bowl, add a little salt to it and when the water is warm just add it and mix it. Mix it until you get dough that it's only a little sticky to your fingers. Leave it to sit for couple of hours.
- Preparing potatoes for the pie by pealing them and cutting them into small pieces and put them into water and let them sit like that.
- Cut the onion and garlic and leave it on the side. You will need for the pie and for the beans as well, also cut the carrot as well.
- After couple of hours take the dough and cut it into small pieces. I've done it like this because it was easier to roll it like that. Put some oil over it and flour beneath it so it doesn't get stick while you're rolling it.
- While you're rolling the dough, you can strain the potatoes and take the pan and let it heat up, add oil to the pan and let it heat up as well. Put the potatoes, garlic and onion into the pan and bring the heat down to a medium. Add gourmet seasoning to it and just mix it every couple of minutes and leave the cover on, do this only for 15 minutes, no more.. You want to potatoes to be prepared like this because the pie will taste better.
- Turn you oven to heat up to 220C (428F) and let it heat up for 10-15 minutes. Take a casserole in which you're going to bake a pie and put an oil in it and spread it across.
- Take your dough and put a potatoes on it and then roll it around, press on edges to close it and put it in your casserole. Do this till you're finished.
- Put the pie into the oven and let it bake for 25 minutes.
- Take a little milk and butter and heat it up, when the pie it's done you'll pour it over the pie. You can take water and pour it, but this is how it tastes better.
- This is it, it's done.
Beans:
- This would be much simpler to make. You already have onion, garlic and carrot cut. Take the beans out of the can into the plate and wash it 4-5 times before using it.
- Put the pot on the stove and let it heat up and put oil in it. When the oil is heated just add garlic, onion, carrot and beans into it. Mix it for couple of minutes and then add water. If you want it to start boil quickly add warm water to it.
- Add gourmet seasoning, parsley, ground ginger, black pepper to it. Wait until the water starts to boil and turn the heat down to a medium and let it cook like that for 25 minutes.
- After 25 minutes move the pot on the side and take a pan. Put oil in it and let it heat up. After that add a flour to it and mix it for minute or two, then move the pan from the heat and add red ground pepper and mix it all up. Bring back the beans on the stove and leave the high heat up. Pour the mixture from your pan into the beans and let it cook like that for 4-5 minutes more and the beans are done.
This is it, enjoy your meal.
